Further training: We make 2,700 teachers fit for digital teaching

“Digital training offensive” (DFO) in NRW
in the year 2020
The task
Lockdowns, school closures and homeschooling: with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers had to quickly become proficient in new technologies and adapt their teaching methods to a completely different, digital learning environment. The state of North Rhine-Westphalia was also faced with this challenge – and solved the training with ML Gruppe.
The implementation
As part of the “Digital Training Offensive NRW” (DFO), we successfully trained over 2,600 participants in more than 150 courses in the so-called “moderator measure” in order to train staff for digital teaching at their respective teaching institutions.
We rely on face-to-face seminars, e-learning and innovative formats such as virtual barcamps
The figures and data at a glance
| Participants | 2,677 teachers from all over North Rhine-Westphalia |
| Learning units | 157 courses on 942 course days |
| Formats | Classroom courses, e-learning, fireside chats, barcamps |
| Evaluation | Positive feedback on the course structure (75-80%), high satisfaction with the moderation (85-90%) |
| Duration | 90 hours per participant, divided into attendance and self-study phases |
| Success rate | Over 80% of participants found the measures to be practical and goal-oriented |
The challenges
- Promotion of digital skills: Facilitators should be enabled to use digital media safely and flexibly in teacher training.
- Individual learning paths: The measure had to respond to the different needs of the participants, from elementary school to vocational training.
- Logistical complexity: With over 2,600 participants and more than 150 courses with face-to-face and online elements, it was important to maintain an overview and ensure smooth implementation.
Conclusion
In terms of logistics, methods and content, this was a truly mammoth project for the further qualification of teachers. Through innovative formats and continuous evaluation, we were able to quickly and effectively enable participants to establish digital teaching methods at their teaching institutions.
What our customer says
“The courses offer space to contribute one’s own expertise and experience in digitally supported further education, teaching, teaching and school development. It creates opportunities to expand your own knowledge and skills. The focus is on the direct transferability of the course content and methods into training practice.”
Take Away
The key to an educational project as large as the “Moderierende Maßnahme” in NRW is comprehensive planning and logistics. The teaching units themselves should combine different, varied and innovative formats and be individually adaptable to the needs of the respective participants.
